Please add your name to make the "free neffy in schools" program available in New Jersey

Our thanks to Sheila Caldwell, BSN, RN, CSN, FNASN for her continued efforts to make sure that New Jersey schools become eligible for the "free neffy in schools" program. Since the statute in NJ that relates to epinephrine use in schools only stipulates for auto-injectors, Sheila Caldwell has been advocating since the summer of 2024 to have the legislation changed to include the nasal route of administration. The manufacturers of Neffy will not provide free epinephrine until the Statute allows for the nasal route of administration. You can read the New Jersey Law Revision Commission report athttps://www.njlrc.org/projects/2024/10/7/title-18a-updating-terms-related-to-epinephrine-administration-and-nurses?rq=title%2018a.
Public comments ends this coming Friday, March 7th. Please respond to this post (you can use the contact us form, or complete a Google Form by clicking here) if you would like your name to be included in the following email that I plan to send to the Legislative Fellow at the New Jersey Law Revision Commission by Friday:
Dear Mr. Kyle Ryan,
"We, the school nurses of Essex County and surrounding areas, support the proposed revisions to "N.J.S. 18A:40-12.6. Administration of epinephrine; primary responsibility; parental consent" in your "Tentative Report of 11/21/24". In the current environment, some of our students will not have the financial resources necessary to bring a dose of their prescribed epinephrine for emergency use at school. It is critical for our schools to have readily available stock epinephrine for emergency administration. The proposed revisions will help make this possible. Thank you."
I concur with Sheila Caldwell in her efforts to make New Jersey Schools become eligible for the "Free Neffy in Schools" program. We need to have the legislation changed to include the nasal route of administration. The manufacturers of Neffy will not provide free epinephrine until the Statute allows for the nasal route of administration and so this legislation needs to be revised to include this route of administration. We need to have supplies at our schools in Essex County and it is a safety issue. The nasal route at times may be a better option for accessibility reasons and we should be able to have that options to deliver the quickest, most efficient, quality care for optimal positive health outcomes.
