We spend about 90% of our time indoors, but most of us don't think about the air we're breathing. In this two-part podcast series, Dr. Payel Gupta and Kortney Kwong Hing from the Itch Podcast discuss things you need to know about indoor air.

In Part 1 of the series, the podcast hosts break down three main types of indoor air pollutants and how they affect your body.

Listen to Part 1: How Indoor Air Quality Impacts Asthma

Part 2 shares practical tips to make your indoor air cleaner, whether at home, school, or work. The hosts also talk about Lüften and cleaning tips for each room in your home.

LIVING AND PRACTICING THROUGH THE CHALLENGES OF ASTHMA

SELF-MANAGEMENT

We were honored to have Dr. Angela Garcia present at the 2025 USAsthma Summit. She is a pharmacist, public health professional, and person living with asthma. Her personal experience with this lifelong condition gives her unique insight into the challenges of asthma self-management and informs her work with patients every day.

Dr. Garcia shared that many people limit their lives by avoiding activities that can trigger asthma symptoms. True self-management, she explained, means learning to live fully while controlling asthma — not living in fear of it. “Avoidance isn’t a solution,” Dr. Garcia says. “Empowerment is.”

Learning about asthma and using medicines the right way can help in preventing asthma attacks and emergency room visits. Key steps include having a clear Asthma Action Plan, knowing your triggers, and talking often with your doctor.

SPRING BREAK ALLERGY AND

ASTHMA TRAVEL TIPS

It's almost time for Spring Break! Here are some tips that will help your vacation be a breeze!

  • Plan for a different climate. Warmer destinations may already be experiencing spring allergy season. Check the forecast and local pollen levels to know what to expect.

  • Research your accommodations ahead of time. Ask about policies that could affect asthma triggers, including smoking rules and pet policies. Ask a travel agent about asthma and allergy friendly hotels.

  • Check your insurance coverage. This is especially important for international travel. Confirm that your policy covers medical care away from home and consider special travel insurance if needed.

  • Carry your medications with you on the plane. Keeping them in your carry-on ensures you can access them during the flight. It also prevents issues if your luggage is delayed or lost.
